Olivia Rodrigo Takes a Surprise Ride with Jimmy Kimmel’s Kids On Their Way to School

The popular singer hitched a ride with Jimmy Kimmel, along with his wife Molly McNearney and their two children, Jane, 9, and William John, also known as “Billy,” aged 6.

They were on their way to school in a sleek VinFast. This was all part of a taped segment for Jimmy Kimmel Live show.

In a clip released on a Tuesday, Kimmel and his partner occupied the front seats, while Jane and Billy sat in the back, openly discussing their disdain for school. Little did they know, an unexpected surprise awaited them.

Kimmel casually spotted a potential hitchhiker by the road and jokingly asked if they should pick her up. It was a total surprise for them, Because it was none other than Olivia Rodrigo, sporting a lilac sweater and black shorts, with her thumb out.

Jane couldn’t hide her excitement, covering her face in disbelief at the presence of the renowned singer. Rodrigo, with a warm smile, asked, “Hey! Do you guys mind if I hitch a ride?” She gracefully settled into the middle back seat.

Both children were starstruck, and Rodrigo wasted no time in breaking the ice, inquiring about Jane’s favorite among her songs. Jane revealed her choice for “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” to which Rodrigo graciously responded, “That’s one of my favorites too.

That’s so sweet of you, thank you for saying that.” When prompted by their mom, Billy jumped in and he shared his favorite song, “The ‘Get Him Back’ song.”

As the backseat trio embarked on an impromptu singalong, the car stereo echoed with Jane’s choice followed by Billy’s. When they reached their destination, Rodrigo gave a heartfelt farewell, thanking the kids for making her feel loved.

Jane, still not believing what just happened, she said “Oh my God” as she walked away from the car.

Later during her guest appearance on Kimmel’s show, he expressed his gratitude, acknowledging the thrill his kids experienced by getting up early for this extraordinary ride. Rodrigo showed the sentiment, saying, “It was so much fun. I hope they had a good time.”

Jimmy Kimmel kept the engine running as Rodrigo headed to his show for a Q&A session. The triple Grammy Award winner, three-time Billboard Hot 100 leader, and two-time Billboard 200 champion delved into topics like house hunting, her fear of ghosts, and the intriguing contents of her bag of “President Biden goodies.”

Fame, as Rodrigo’s parents can attest, is a complex journey. Her dad proudly boasts about Olivia’s success to his coworkers, her mom remains modest and shy, and Olivia herself tends to be coy when asked about her daughter.

Rodrigo, like many artists, considers the use of profanity when crafting songs. She believes in using strong language tastefully and when necessary. While writing some tracks for “Guts,” she initially included profanity but later toned it down.

Interestingly, none of those four-letter words made their way into “Ballad of a Homeschooled Girl,” a song Rodrigo performed for Kimmel’s audience.
